Unlike ocean freight that is simply charged by the pound/kilo and the value of your cargo, air freight must take into consideration the volume of your goods because airplanes have a limited amount of space.  Therefore, in calculating the cost of air freight carriers calculate costs by calculating dimensional or volumetric weight.  In this calculation air freight companies utilize the greater of the actual weight or volumetric weight to calculate their shipping charges.  Dimensional weight tends to favor more dense cargo as opposed to lightweight and high volume goods.  Lightweight cargo will likely be charged dimensional weight where heavier and denser materials will more likely be charged by gross weight.

There are some volumetric weight calculators available online to give you a ballpark idea of whether you are likely to be charged dimensional or gross weight.  We are experts in forwarding your cargo throughout Latin America.  In fact we guarantee the fastest freight forwarding to all of Central and South America without risking significant delays, hijacking, shrinkage, customs fines, or confiscation.*
